The story of YIT began in 1912 with the merger of four companies. Their common goal was to provide high-quality and comprehensive services in the field of construction. YIT, having built a solid reputation in infrastructure construction and securing the water supply for most Finnish cities, began to expand rapidly. Gradually, the corporation's business activities expanded worldwide. In the twentieth century, this primarily included the Middle East and the former Soviet Union, or the Russian Federation. At the turn of the millennium, the company expanded into the field of technological infrastructure projects, both in Scandinavia and in Central European countries.
In 2010, YIT acquired a majority stake in the then 13-year-old company Reding a.s., leading to the creation of YIT Reding a.s.. YIT Slovakia a.s., as we know it today, was established in 2016 after YIT purchased the remaining shares.
